AI Investment Expected to Reach $1.09 Trillion by 2026
The global investment in artificial intelligence (AI) is estimated to reach approximately $1.09 trillion by 2026. This figure differs from the frequently cited $800 billion, as it primarily reflects the investments of major cloud service providers and does not adequately account for investments from private companies and non-U.S. firms. The AI investment in the United States is projected to be around $581 billion. According to Goldman Sachs, the capital expenditures of major cloud service providers underreport the global investment amount by about $200 billion and overestimate the domestic investment by approximately $200 billion. Goldman Sachs has raised its forecast for capital expenditures by major AI firms to $527 billion for 2026, noting that the early forecasts for 2024 and 2025 fell short of actual spending growth rates. AI capital expenditures are driven by demand for GPUs, ASICs, HBM, servers, and data center power facilities, and the scale of capital expenditures may vary depending on the economic lifespan of AI semiconductors and the costs of next-generation data centers. The capital investment in AI is projected to be around $7.6 trillion from 2026 to 2031, but this is a scenario analysis rather than a confirmed forecast.
