GPT-5.6 Sol Costs 13% Less Than Kimi K3
The notion that Chinese artificial intelligence models are cheaper than their American counterparts has been challenged. According to analysis by AlphaSense, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and Anthropic's Opus 4.8 offer better quality for the cost compared to Kimi K3 and GLM-5.2. The price for 1 million output tokens for Kimi K3 is $15, Opus 4.8 is $25, and GPT-5.6 Sol is $30. However, Kimi K3 uses more tokens during the answer generation process, leading to higher total costs. The median total cost of GPT-5.6 Sol is 13% lower than that of Kimi K3, while its quality score is 20% higher. Opus 4.8 achieves a quality score that is 13% higher than Kimi K3 at half the cost. The cost per task for Kimi K3 is $0.94, for GPT-5.6 Sol it is $1.04, and for Opus 4.8 it is $1.80. Cost differences arise based on evaluation criteria, and in financial analysis, the quality of the final answer and retry costs are significant variables. Companies should consider various factors instead of just simple price comparisons.
