Hyperliquid introduces wallet allowlists for perpetual markets
Hyperliquid is adding optional wallet allowlists to its builder-run perpetual markets, as announced in a developer update on Sept. 3. The testnet-only feature, named HIP-3*, allows market deployers to restrict trading access to specific wallets without applying the same policy across the platform. HIP-3 is designed for perpetual markets created by independent builders, enabling onchain allowlists and proxied user actions. The feature is optional and does not affect existing markets. Currently, it is only available on testnet with no mainnet launch date announced. Deployers using HIP-3* can perform five defined actions on behalf of users, including adding or removing allowlist approvals and canceling orders. However, these powers are limited to the specific venue, ensuring that actions do not affect other decentralized exchanges. The design allows firms with customer or jurisdiction restrictions to create gated markets while others continue using standard HIP-3. It does not imply regulatory approval or require protocol-wide know-your-customer checks. Each market operator retains economic responsibility, defining contracts and managing settings independently. A mainnet HIP-3 deployer must maintain a stake of 500,000 HYPE, which can be slashed for irregularities.
