John Deaton Evaluates Bitcoin as a Solution to Dollar Value Decline
John Deaton, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, has assessed Bitcoin as a scarce asset that can address the decline in dollar purchasing power and financial accessibility issues. He stated that Bitcoin will be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Deaton criticized the U.S. for applying 1930s laws to modern blockchain technology, explaining that the Clarity Act aims to bring the U.S. into the modern era and end enforcement-centric regulation. Bitcoin was mentioned as a tool that can reduce remittance costs and bank fees, with Deaton sharing his experience of paying a 12% fee when sending money to his mother in the past. He emphasized that Bitcoin can solve these issues and enable more people to participate in the market. Deaton revealed that 80% of his net worth is in Bitcoin, and that the current proportion of Bitcoin in his portfolio may have fluctuated around 75%. He argued that the government continues to devalue the dollar by printing vast amounts of money each year, stating that those who hold assets can participate in price increases, while those who do not are affected by the decline in purchasing power. Deaton also emphasized that banks can participate in innovation by creating stablecoins or adopting Bitcoin strategies.
