Musk Claims Grok 5 May Surpass All AI Large Model Products
Musk stated on social media that Grok 4.7 is roughly equivalent to Opus 5.0, with certain strengths and weaknesses that need improvement in multimodal performance. Grok 4.8 will bring significant enhancements, Grok 4.9 may reach Astra/Fable levels, and Grok 5 might surpass all current products. Previously, Musk announced that Grok 4.8 is a model with a scale of 2.5 trillion parameters, trained using SpaceXAI's new C++ software stack, with pre-training set to conclude this week, followed by reinforcement learning. At the end of June, Musk indicated plans to rewrite Grok's training and inference software in C/C++ within about three months, optimizing it for NVIDIA's GB300, which is expected to yield substantial improvements. However, Grok 4.7 was delayed due to RL issues; it was originally scheduled for release on September 12 but was postponed because the model prematurely gave up on difficult problems and did not rigorously check answers.
