Protests Erupt Across Europe to Halt Data Center Construction
On November 8, news emerged of protests erupting in multiple locations across Europe, with citizens demanding a halt to data center construction. Protesters are concerned that the rapid expansion of data centers will lead to increased energy consumption, environmental damage, and social impacts. This action was initiated by over 100 civil organizations and advocacy groups from 15 countries, calling for a suspension of all new large data center projects until a clear regulatory framework is established. On Saturday, about 2,000 people marched in Dublin, while 1,300 gathered in Helsinki, and similar demonstrations took place in several small towns across Finland. The coalition consists of local democracy and climate protest groups.
