Research Indicates Critical Threshold for Stablecoin Decoupling
A study released by the Renmin University of China’s Fintech Research Institute points out that stablecoin decoupling exhibits significant non-linear and threshold characteristics. The research analyzes the risks of stablecoin decoupling based on LLM intelligent agents, suggesting that arbitrage mechanisms can absorb a certain degree of informational pressure. However, once the severity of the narrative reaches a critical threshold, the system may quickly enter a state of sustained decoupling. The study emphasizes that crises are not simply triggered by bad news leading to price declines, but rather involve a series of self-reinforcing processes, including severe narrative shocks, rising fear, worsening liquidity, concentrated selling by retail investors, withdrawal of arbitrageurs, and order imbalances, ultimately resulting in sustained decoupling. Additionally, the research finds that in experiments with the highest severity narrative shocks, there are no statistically significant differences in the average degree of decoupling caused by different sources of risk, indicating that the severity of the narrative shock may be more important than the specific content of the narrative.
