Stacks Founder Proposes Using AI for Security and Limiting Withdrawals on Liquid
The founder of Stacks, Muneeb Ali, spoke out about the recent theft on the Liquid network, where approximately 4,000 bitcoins (BTC) were stolen. Ali indicated that the failure was not cryptographic but rather an error in the integration logic of Elements, the code derived from Bitcoin Core used by Liquid. A recent patch for a previous vulnerability likely introduced the new error that was exploited by hackers. Ali suggested implementing withdrawal limits and temporary delays on exchanges and withdrawals to the main chain to mitigate damage. He clarified that Stacks does not use Elements, so the Liquid error does not affect its protocol. However, his team employs AI models to audit their code and has bug bounty programs for findings. Additionally, Ali emphasized that the long-term development of Stacks will focus on self-custody solutions, eliminating risks from bridges and smart contracts. He concluded that recent incidents underscore the need to take the threat of artificial intelligence seriously and advocated for the ossification of Bitcoin Core code to keep it simple and strong.
