Tesla's Terafab Project Launched in Texas, Aiming for Over 1 Terawatt of Computing Power
Tesla has announced that the Terafab project will be launched in Grimes County, Texas, with the goal of achieving over 1 terawatt of computing capacity annually. This project is the largest chip manufacturing initiative in the world, integrating logic chips, memory chips, and advanced packaging technologies. Tesla broke ground in April at the northern section of its Texas Gigafactory, where Terafab will establish a vertically integrated semiconductor wafer fabrication facility covering over 100 million square feet, encompassing chip manufacturing, packaging, and testing processes. The facility aims to bridge the gap between global chip supply capabilities and future computing demands, with expectations that the chip requirements of SpaceX and Tesla will far exceed current global supply capacities. Tesla stated that existing chip suppliers should expand their production capacities to address the widening supply-demand gap.
