Finding a European destination that allows you to work for a few months and save a significant portion of your salary in dollars has become an increasingly attractive option for many young Argentinians. In certain areas away from major cities, jobs related to hotels, restaurants, and tourism can offer an attractive combination of pay and daily expenses.

Among the options is Norway, a country known for its high wages but also for its high cost of living. The equation can change when the position includes accommodation and, in some cases, meals.

Daily life in Norway's tourist areas presents marked differences compared to the pace of the main cities on the continent.

Wages of up to $25 per hour: Opportunities in hospitality and tourism

The tourism sector concentrates a good part of the opportunities for those seeking temporary jobs in certain Norwegian regions. Hotels, restaurants, and establishments related to visitors can hire staff during peak activity periods.

A recent example shows a remuneration of 230 Norwegian kroner per hour, equivalent to approximately $25 according to the conversion used in that case. With a workweek of about 40 hours, the gross income could be around $4,000 monthly.

The key to this alternative is not only in the salary. In certain job offers, the employer provides accommodation for staff, a benefit that can completely change the final tally for someone coming from abroad.

Tasks can vary depending on the establishment: customer service, gastronomy, cleaning, maintenance, or general assistance are some of the profiles that may appear during this type of season. For those with prior experience in hospitality or tourism, having work history can be an advantage when looking for a vacancy.

Tourism plays a significant role in various areas of this country, especially during the months of higher visitor activity.

Why it is possible to save more than 50% of the salary in Norway

The appeal of this alternative appears when comparing salary with actual expenses. Taking as a reference a gross monthly income close to $4,000. After deductions, about $3,000 would remain. If approximately $380 for accommodation, $50 for phone, and $400 for food are deducted from that sum, the available money would be around $2,170 monthly.

At that rate, ten months of work would allow you to reach a figure close to $20,000. But it is important to put the number in context: it does not mean that anyone who finds a job in Norway can automatically replicate that result.

Taxes, hours worked, accommodation prices, transportation, food, and the type of contract can significantly alter the calculations. You also have to consider the cost of the ticket from Argentina and the initial expenses to settle in.

In exchange, those who choose small towns must be prepared for a different experience than that of a large European capital. Spectacular landscapes and isolation can go hand in hand: for some people, it will be an advantage, while for others, it will be a decisive factor in ruling out the destination.

The essential requirements to join the work season

For an Argentinian who wants to work legally in Norway, it is not enough to travel as a tourist. Argentine citizens can enter without a visa for visits of up to 90 days, but cannot work during a tourist stay; to work, they need the corresponding residence permit.

One of the available options for young Argentinians is the Working Holiday program, which allows them to stay for up to a year and work as part of an extended vacation. Requirements include having Argentine nationality, residing in Argentina at the time of application, being between 18 and 30 years old, having a valid passport, health insurance, and sufficient funds to cover the first months of stay.

Another possibility is to obtain a specific permit for seasonal workers. In that case, the person must already have a concrete full-time job offer. The position must correspond to an activity considered seasonal, and the employer must meet certain conditions set by Norwegian authorities.

The seasonal worker permit also does not allow indefinite stay under that modality: a person cannot be a seasonal worker for more than six months within a twelve-month period.
