Wildberries owes sellers $240 million after warehouse attacks
Sellers of Wildberries have appealed to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, requesting oversight of payments for sold goods. The total debt amounts to approximately $240 million, and entrepreneurs have not received funds for sales made in the last week of July. According to regulations, the marketplace was supposed to transfer the funds by August 26, but payments have been frozen. In August, transfers were delayed to 10-14 days instead of the usual seven, and requests for withdrawals ceased to be processed. Wildberries attributes the delays to technical failures and DDoS attacks on payment services, promising to restore payments after the system stabilizes. Experts note that uncertainty is paralyzing businesses, with up to 20% of suppliers beginning to reduce or suspend new shipments. Payment issues worsened after drone attacks on the company's logistics hubs, leading to a loss of over 20% of warehouse capacity and damages between $1.2 billion and $2.4 billion. The platform's turnover has dropped by a quarter, disrupting Wildberries' financing scheme. Previously, the Russian government refused to cover $9.6 billion in losses for destroyed warehouses and only offered a one-year tax deferral.
