Zelensky Coordinates Visit Schedule with U.S. Envoy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has entered into discussions with U.S. officials to coordinate his visit to Ukraine. This contact is not about a ceasefire agreement or the signing of a peace document, but rather a procedure to align the visit dates and agenda. On August 31, President Zelenskyy spoke on the phone with U.S. President's envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and dialogue between the negotiation teams of the U.S. and Ukraine is ongoing. President Zelenskyy stated that this visit would be very useful in finding solutions for peace. Reuters reported that President Zelenskyy described the call as "detailed and constructive." However, there was no mention of the drafting or signing of an agreement. The Ukrainian presidential office announced that both teams would continue to communicate to coordinate the agenda and schedule. Contacts between the U.S. and Ukraine have been ongoing since June, and during a call in June, President Zelenskyy discussed the resumption of diplomacy to end the war with Russia. This call can be seen as a step towards specifying the U.S. envoy's visit to Ukraine. Signals from the Russian side are limited, and the Kremlin spokesperson stated that there are no specific plans for the next meeting. This call is seen as a sign that negotiation channels are being maintained.
