Debate on XRP Ledger Transaction Capacity Back in the Spotlight

The transaction capacity of the XRP Ledger has come to the forefront again with discussions that started on platform X. User Minus Wells argued that 1,500 or 5,000 transactions per second (TPS) are not sufficient for the future of finance. Wells noted that these levels are close to Visa's daily average transaction volume. It is known that VisaNet's technical capacity ranges between 65,000 and 83,000 TPS, while the actual average hovers around 8,100 to 8,500 TPS. Wells stated that the XRP Ledger can sustain 1,500 TPS. Hussein Zangana, community director of the XRP Ledger Foundation, emphasized that the scaling of layer one blockchains progresses gradually and that low TPS values do not imply inadequacy. Zangana mentioned that payment channels and layer two solutions are more suitable for mass and micro payments. Additionally, the batch feature, which will be implemented in October 2026, will allow multiple transactions to be processed as a single package. Zangana expressed that artificial intelligence could accelerate development processes and that efforts to increase transaction capacity are ongoing.
