Financial Services Agency Reports 1,961 Cases of Fraudulent Investment Solicitation from April to June, Over 80% Resulted in Losses
Fraudulent Investment Solicitation, Over 80% of Consultations Resulted in Losses
On the 11th, the Financial Services Agency announced the status of consultations received by the "Financial Services User Consultation Office" from April 1, 2026, to June 30 of the same year. The number of consultations regarding fraudulent investment solicitations, including investment products and cryptocurrencies, reached 1,961, of which 1,616 cases resulted in actual financial losses.
The confirmed loss rate exceeds 80%. The Financial Services Agency utilizes the information received in the consultation office for reference in financial administration, including hearings and verifications with financial institutions, and this term, inappropriate customer responses from cryptocurrency exchange operators have been cited as one of the examples.
Decrease of 92 Cases in Cryptocurrency Consultations Compared to Previous Term
By category, the number of consultations regarding cryptocurrencies was 1,374, a decrease of 92 cases from the previous term's 1,466. By cause, the most common was related to individual transactions and contracts, totaling 991 cases (72%), followed by requests to the administration at 158 cases (12%). Additionally, consultations that referred to industry associations such as the Cryptocurrency Transaction Business Association totaled 228 cases.
Consultations regarding investment products totaled 5,603, remaining almost unchanged from the previous term's 5,449. Requests to the administration accounted for 2,548 cases (46%), with listed stocks at 1,132 cases (20%) and FX at 245 cases (4%).
Total Consultations Remain High at 15,418
The total number of consultations received by the office was 15,418, a decrease of 347 from the previous term's 15,765, but there was no significant fluctuation. In terms of consultation types, inquiries and consultations accounted for 8,990 cases (58%), while opinions and requests accounted for 5,824 cases (38%).
The method of consultation was primarily by phone at 8,255 cases (54%), followed by the website at 6,413 cases (42%). Access to the Financial Services Agency chatbot reached 9,835 cases, averaging 108 uses per day.
