Israel to Build Air Defense System for Greece for 3 Billion Euros
The Israeli Ministry of Defense has signed an agreement with Greece worth 3 billion euros for the supply of the multi-layered air defense system "Achilles Shield." The system will be based on Israeli technologies and expertise. Greece will acquire David's Sling and SPYDER interceptors from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, as well as BARAK MX systems from Israel Aerospace Industries. Rafael will also create a national command and control system for the new weaponry. Additionally, an agreement worth 26 million euros has been signed for the supply of Drone Dome systems for protection against drones. The contract comes amid deteriorating relations between Israel and Turkey. Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias noted that modern conflicts have changed the parameters of military defense. Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized the need to deepen the strategic partnership between Tel Aviv and Athens in light of regional challenges.
